How much Fermcap-S to use

Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:22 am

I've been using Fermcap-S for a few months and love the stuff. I use it in my starters so I don't piss off the wife by making a mess on the stove. I also use it in my brew kettle since it is 7.5 gallons and I pre-boil volume is usually 7 gallons.

Now I hear that Jamil uses it in his better bottle because it's only 6 gallons. Is there such a thing as too much Fermcap-S? Does any of it transfer over from the brew kettle or does it all get stuck in the break material?

2-3 drops per gallon in the boil kettle, 1-2 drops per gallon in the fermenter. That's what my bottle says and it seems to work.
