Lager yeast starter

Will I have any detrimental effects if I use wheat wort starter for my Helles (#2206 Bavarian)?

As long as it is wort from malted wheat or extract I think it should be ok.

If you have any concerns you could just let the starter ferment out and then pour the "beer" off before you pitch (leave some in to swirl up the yeast.)

I use wheat extract all the time for starters as I figure the extra proteins can't hurt. It's also very light flavored so I get less flavor from the spent starter wrt (which I try to decant as much as possible). You'll be in good shape.

If you pitch the entire starter without decanting, you get some haze from the wheat which doesn't look good in a helles.
