The help isn't any better (though occasionally one of the employees knows about the beer side), but the selection is pretty good, and things are kept cold.

As for the OG topic, what I have seen is more places moving to "light" chocolate malt to distinguish.

From my experience, they're about the same. They do have fresher ingredients, but Belgrade has gotten a lot better about that too. There's multitudes of active homebrewers in the area compared to just a few years ago, so I'm not thinking that really was a decision on the shop's part as much as supply/demand. I still have mixed feelings about the new shop. They definitely have a couple douchebags working there, but considering the 85% of the store that isn't homebrew stuff it's not all that surprising. Have you been to the shop in Billings?

I haven't. I often stay away from Billings, though I have heard great things about the shop. I might try a trip out there soon, especially since Billings has Indian food.

He's closed on Mondays, which always seems to be the day I'm over there. It's 2 brothers, Craig the homebrewer & Errol the hippie who doesn't drink anymore. They're both great guys. Craig usually has a couple beers on tap in the backroom & is always happy to have knowledgeable folks sample & chat beer for a while. It's a really tiny shop, but he's got a load of stuff stacked & packed up to the ceiling. I've only been in a half dozen to a dozen shops in my life, but this one is the best by far. I'd recommend it to any BN'r passing through, even if you just stop in to chat for a bit.
