I've used hops out of the same batch that I've used at 90, 60, 15 minutes and they were citrusy no BO/onion.
I don't dry hop with Summit.

If you brewed that BO/onion batch, did that seem to be evident from the smell of the Summit before you threw it in? I've heard it both ways too and thought I would just let the smell from the opened package guide me as to dry hop with it or not. I'm thinking of pairing it with cascade for this too.

I did smell of the pellets before the brew and there was no onion or BO but I'm here to tell you that they are very pungent! I had them sitting on a table in hop sacks and I could smell it from 5'+ away... Real dank!

I didn't brew that batch, but I split the hop order so I got some of the same hops. No, it didn't smell like onion or bo prior to boil.

Jbug, did you dry hop with the Summit? Just wondered if you had any kind of update on this yet.

sorry man but I didn't... I'm not sure if you saw my prior post but I screwed the beer up (leaking chiller)... So I had hose water beer... I let it ferment out and tasted it... The hose water flavors were there.. DRAIN POUR!

But as for your question, my plan was to dry hop with Cascade. All the onion/ BO comments scared me away from the summit dry hop. I plan to revisit Summit real soon!

PS- the chiller is fixed for good! I felt so shitty, I let almost 2 gallons leak into my wort that I worked on almost all day, in 98 degree weather I might add... BS!

I just brewed a combo Citra+ Rakau (New Zealand hop with very similar flavours to Citra) this weekend that had a bit of Summit in the 10 minute addition.

It had no onion notes in the bag but WAS very pungent and had the most aroma of all of the hops in this one (a bit of Nelson Sauvin in there, too).

I'll give it a smell/ taste in 2 or so days when the krausen falls in and things settle down and then I'm going to dry hop with the same blend of 35% Citra 35% Rakau 15% Summit 15% Nelson Sauvin and I'll taste again.

I'm REALLY hoping to get loads of Mango and Passionfruit from the Citra and Rakau and just a bit of background tangerine from the Summit and those great aromatic Sauvingnon Blanc notes from the NS.

We'll see if the Summit ruins it. (This has been my fear this whole brew that the Summit would overpower everything or turn it to onion.) -Next time the Summit gets replaced with Amarillo at 10% for that Florida orange goodness!

Well, I just had to know, so I threw a half oz of Summit in with some Cascade and Liberty dry hops for my APA. Still smells great 2 days later. Updates to follow.

Drink some oskar blues gubna if you want to know what using a lot of summit smells and tastes like, to me it sort of smells like onion powder but mainly dank with a little citrus and pine.

Ok, my APA after 2.5 weeks in the bottle smells nice and tastes good but is still rounding out flavors. I get pineapple and tangerine and some cattiness that blends into aroma/flavor. I like it. I think Simcoe would do better for this but I'm glad I did it. No BO or onion for me. That may be an individual perception.
