I dump dry hops straight from the bag and I try to do it quick so not too much oxygen gets in.


I used to steam the chips to sanitize, but a lot of the nice oaky flavor and aroma got lost in the water I was steaming them with - I do a quick boil in the microwave to kill any bugs. I dump the hops out on a clean plate on top of my scale to weigh, then dump them into the carboy through a sanitized funnel, then the oak, then I rack from the primary on top of it all.
