I could go to my local brew store and buy them, but as stated here on this link http://www.fourpeaks.com/Beers.asp for the description of 8th Street, I'm thinking it's not Kent Golding hops. Also check out this http://www.producedinkent.co.uk/media/f ... s_EBro.pdf. I would have to say though that East Kent Golding hops are grown in the same area, but still something different. I could be wrong though.

8th Street ale is an ESB. I have never heard of any distinction between Kent and EKG. I think they would be very appropriate in a clone recipe. Good luck. It's one of my favorite local beers, too.

But you have heard of "Kent" or "Kentish hops"? I ended up emailing Fourpeaks, waiting for a reply now. Guess we'll just have to see what they say.

I think the mystery is finally solved for me. In last week's Fourpeak's brewer's blog, they talk about getting help from Barry John, who retired after working 30 years at Young's Brewery in London. He helped develop 8th Street and Fourpeak's Oatmeal Stout. They state that 8th Street is a almost direct clone of Ram Rod, a beer made at Young's Brewery. I checked out their website and they use East Kent Golding hops for pretty much all of their beers. So based on that, I will conclude that there isn't a difference between the two. But I did find out that for Ram Rod, they add Golding hops during the cold storage. I guess I'm going to have to venture onto trying out that technique. Thank you for all of the replies! :jnj
