gluten free beer

Tue Oct 25, 2005 7:23 am

gonna use the, show a friend to brew day, to make a batch of gluten free beer. Anyone got any good advice. I don't want to just make a mead like beer by using just honey and I'm not sure about triing to malt buckwheat. I guess corn or rice syrup could be used. Any brewer successful made one of these gluten free beers?

thanks kindly

While searching for a gluten-free beer recipe for a friend a while back I ran into this site: http://www.becksbrews.com/servlet/StoreFront go to the "coming soon section of the pull down menu) they have malted buckwheat (which I believe is a pretty important part of the gluten-free beer) they are also saying they have a will have an extract kit out in Febrewary, which is what I am waiting for. http://www.mrgoodbeer.com/gf/ this site also has some info on it. Hope it works out!

I have made one gluten-free beer for some friends that have Celiac disease. I did not personally have any but the consumers of the brew said that they liked it. Whether that was just for my sake or not is unknown at the moment. I found the recipe online and used corn and rice syrup as the base. I can post the recipe if you like, but it will have to wait unitl I get home this evening.

Cheers,
