Winter Wheat

Thu May 18, 2006 3:25 pm

Hey, I have faded out of existence, but I am still here somewhat.

So, anyways, I have about 20 acres on my property that is winter wheat. Can I used this for brewing at all? Basically a farmer pays me to use the land, but he won't mind if I snake a little bit of grain. Is this any good to brew with, basically?

Thanks.

Thanks, bub. Just wanted more input from those in the know. If it turns out half as nice as Victory's Whirlwind Wit, I'll be happy.

So any kind of locally grown wheat will work? I just found out that I can pick up a 100# sack of wheat for 3-5 dollars. The person who told me this uses it to feed livestock. Add some 2 row and I have beer right?

HMMM OK you got me started, just how Much Time do you have?
LOL Malt the wheat this does 3 nice things on the surface.
1) reduces the protein (if you remember to remove the rootlets and acrospire afterwards)
2) Gives the wheat Diastatic power of it's own
3) Gives a sense of Purpose Beyond watching The weeds dry out in the sticks
really if ya want a few tips on malting your own message me :)
