Doesn't buying grains in bulk, and thus saving money justify the trip? Guess it depends on how far you are going...

It's just about a split. If I buy four bags of grain, I can save $25 per bag, but with gas at $4 bucks +, it's a wash to make a trip just to pick up grain. It's about 150+ miles to B3 from my house if not a little more. It's also a wash buying from my LHBS vs. paying shipping, he charges the same amount it would cost me to have it shipped. To drive down, I have to time it just right to miss rush hour traffic both ways. So, with all those factors, I still save, but just not as much. If I were closer, I could bring down my cost to close to 50 cents a beer. Still, a buck a beer, or there abouts isn't to bad all things considered.
