Malteurop US pale malt - Anyone used it?

Tue Oct 12, 2010 4:20 pm

My local homebrew shop has 50 lb bags of "Malteurop" US-2 pale malt for a good price. I've never heard of this maltster, and am making sure it's a decent product. From a Google search, I see that Rebelbrewer sells it, but there aren't any reviews of it at their site.

Here is a quote about it from the Pro Brewer site:
We have been using this malt via bulk delivery for a couple of years now, and others in Montana even longer. My experience is with their malt from their Great Falls, Montana facility, I have not used their malt from any of their other facilities.

It is excellent quality 2-row malt, usually from Metcalfe or Copeland varieties. It is lighter at about 2L, since you are used to using British Pale malt you will probably want to increase your specialty usage somewhat. Kernel size is always very uniform. Malteurope has been great to work with. Our biggest issues have been with delivery/loading with the contract freight company. This malt is made from some of the best 2-row barley (did I say Montana-grown!) and mountain spring water in the country. To my knowledge their facility is the most modern and technologically advanced malt plant in North America. It is an amazing tour if you ever get the opportunity.

Is that from Cornhusker Beverage? How much per bag?

Thanks, Bug. Yes, it's at Cornhusker. They're currently out of stock, but last time I saw it I recall it was $40 or $45. The Fermenter's Supply guy has Rahr 2-row for $55 / bag.

Yup, Cornhusker is charging $45/sack for 2-row and Weyerman Pilsner!
