Carafa Special II sub?

never used it. Recipe calls for 2oz

Would any chocolate malt do?
On tap at the LAB.

Winter Warmer - 5.4%
Amber's Sister Ale - 5.3%

Coming up -Dunkel

Depends on what you mean by "do". You'll get more roasty flavors out of a chocolate malt than a carafa special, but other than that it will be pretty much the same. I use carafa special II instead of chocolate malt a lot of times.

What kind of beer is this for?

For a Dunkelweizen. I just found some online. Local shops here are out. Thanks for your help!

I've seen chocolate malt in Dunkelweizen recipes before but I would not call Carafa Special a substitute for it in the least. Color? yes. Flavor? Not at all.

Yeah, I'd make the effort to get the carafa special for a dunkleweizen. Then again, my palate is a little less tolerant of roast character than most.

You could always look for Belgian debittered black malt. Probably a bit darker so just use less.
