JZ's winter spice beer

Mon Oct 26, 2009 12:25 pm

Im getting ready to put together the winter spiced beer from brewing clasic stiles and I noticed Jamile states its based on the english old ale. What I noticed is that there is no treacle in the spiced version. On the show Jamil talked about how important the treacle is in the old ale. So my question is, was this left out on purpose? does it not go well with the spice? Has anyone brewed it with the treacle? Any help would be appriciated.

I have brewed the Christmas spice ale before and I am assuming that the treacle might overpower the spice aroma in the beer. Just my guess. I would also go a bit bigger on the spice amounts and be sure to use fresh spices whenever you can.
