Leave the hops in the fermenter???

Tue May 26, 2009 5:02 pm

Hello,

I have been adding a shitload of hops to my boils lately and then straining them out of the wort before fermenting. Is this what other people do, or would my refreshing adult beverage benefit from leaving the hops in the wort throughout the fermentation?
Thanks for the help.

peace,
Brannon

Generally, yes, they get filtered out with the break material post boil.
But, if some pellet matter gets into your fermenter, don't sweat it. It'll be fine.

In my experience, large amounts of hop matter getting into your fermenter can definitely cause a grassy/vegetal flavor that I do not find enjoyable at all.

Also, if you're using leaf hops. Those are perfectly sized to clog the crap out of racking canes and auto siphons during transfer.
