A friend of mine got me Charlie Papazian's 365 days of beer wall calender and one of the day's was a clone recipie for Fuller's ESB. The recipie there called for Extra Special Bitter Malt. I was looking at some of the online supply shops and could only find Extra Special Malt from Breis. Is this the same thing?

I'm not familiar with the calendar you mention, but I would think that Extra Special Bitter malt is just Marris Otter malt. This is speaking purely from ignorance though. Either way, I'm sure you would be fine with Marris Otter, after all, ESB is an English style beer.

Briess Special and Extra Special Malts are not base malts... one is 50L, the other is 130L, and neither is enzymatic. I've never heard of ESB Malt, but Fuller's clone recipes I've seen use Maris Otter as their base.
It looks like Pale Ale Malt made from Harrington barley instead of Maris Otter, but otherwise it's the same SRM, slightly lower protein and yield, and a lower diastic power (90 instead of 120).
And the ESB in this case stands for "Extra Special British"

really??? thats awesome news! that is like 1/2 the price per sack compaired to the english pale malts from larrys. i like purchasing malts that are more local anyway
