Oxygen Absorbing Bottle Caps

Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:26 pm

I ordered a bag of oxygen absorbing bottle caps so I could bottle some kegged brew to send in to the show. I intend on sanitizing the caps before use, but the B3 website says they activate when wet.
How does one properly sanitize these types of bottle caps? Wouldn't sanitizing them "activate" them? And if so, does that decrease their effectiveness?

This is pretty much all I use when I bottle. I have dipped them in star san and have used them dry right out of the bag. I can't tell any difference. :? I read somewhere that getting them wet activated the O2 thing so to use them dry right out of the bag. I did that for a while and then I got paranoid and started dipping them in star san. That is what I'm doing now anyway. I would also love a good answer on this one.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

How about dipping each one in StarSan just before you stick it on the bottle?
