Bad Check Valve?

Thu Jan 10, 2008 4:49 am

New issue.

I have 2 LP regulators and each is split with individual shut-off valves with built-in check valves. When I pressurize one of my regulators let it stabilze then back off the pressure, I hear a hissing sound. It seems like I am getting back-pressure off one of the kegs with a bad check valve because it only happens when I back off the pressure. If I close the suspect valve the sound disappears. If I lthen let some pressure off that keg then dial up the pressure and reopen the valve...voila, sound disappears (same as if I close shutoff on that line) .

Seems like a stuck or faulty check valve in my shutoff valve....any other thoughts?

Sounds right to me. Do the soap bubble test to be sure, though.

Right on BDawg...already soaked the assembly with StarSan...not really sure where the gas would go on a back-pressure off the keg, except maybe out the pressure relief valve or into the keg :?:

Anyway, just to be sure I am going to pull that line this weekend and replace the check-valve....more to follow for anyone who cares.

Good news is I still have CO2 and a b/u bottle. More importantly my batch of Blowing Monk is almost done fermenting out at 82 deg F and I should have a keg available by the end of the night I hope :D

Thanks man....
