Co2 Lines

Sun Dec 30, 2007 10:30 pm

Ok, so it is time to defer to the collective wisdom of the BN Army... I'm tired of using cheap ass hardware store vinyl tubing for Co2... it leaks and eventually gets rigid and cracks. So I went to the not-so-local keg shop who sold me 5/16ths tubing... all my co2 fittings are 1/4. So, I went back to see if they had 1/4in tubing... no such luck. Only 3/16ths and 5/16ths. The guy there said that I can use a hose clamp on the 5/16ths tubing and crank it down (I've had a leak for a while... so this doesn;t sound to good to me). My other option is to wait a few days until I can drop by B3 Riverside to get the 1/4in tubing. I'm leaning towards waiting a few days... but was wondering what everyone else does? Do you have 1/4 in tubing or do you crank down on 5/16ths?

Use the 3/16". You can put the end in some hot water and then you can muscle it over the 1/4" fitting - no leaks, no problem.

You owe me a bomber.... :)

My LHBS had the red tubing (think Kuriyama was the brand name). That's what I had seen in bars and such, and since it was the same price as vinyl, I got it. It has an inner and outer layer, from what I can see, so it does not leak. If you see it, get some. It's very pliable so you really get a good seal with it, and it's stayed flexible for me for the 3 or so years I've had it..

That being said, I'll either use Oeticker (stepless) clamps on my CO2 lines, or if I'm using vinyl tubing, crank the worm drive clamps down until i see tubing begin to squeegee out from between the slots in the clamp....

Mylo is right. The hot water does the trick. I just use the hot right out of the tap. I didn't need to boil it.
