Hillbilly Bottling

The last time I made mead I split off a little bit and added Blackberrys to it. It was only about a liter so I really didn’t want to rack it again to get it off the berrys. So strait to bottles it went. I usually bottle everything in beer bottles, but this seemed like more fun.

Tastes pretty good. Defiantly needs to age for a while, but seeming good so far.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

Nicely done! Looks tasty too...

Did you do anything to try and make it more air-tight (ie: plastic wrap under the lid) or did you just hand tighten the crap out of it?

I just hand tightened them. I flushed with CO2 before filling, so maybe that will help a bit.

Mason jars seal pretty well if you drop the lids in boiling water to heat them up a bit then srew them on, as they cool the will be good and tight....unlike a hillbillys little sister

drill a 1/2 in hole and put a tire valve in it and you could put it under a small amount of CO2 like the redneck carbonator caps.

Since it's not carbonated, this should work great. The tip about softening the rubber ring on the lid in hot water is a good idea.
