Storing full kegs

Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:52 am

My problem is my chest freezer is full of kegs of beer and mead so I don't have any room to cold store kegs of new batches of beer.

Is there a problem storing full kegs of beer at room temp under 15-20psi CO2 for extended periods of time assuming proper sanitation?

Thanks!

Given proper sanitation, and a style of beer that will stand up to a bit of aging, you'll be fine. I routinely store my kegged beer at room temp. I even took a couple medals with a beer that was stored at room temp for almost 2 years (A southern English Brown). But, I've also come across some nasty oxidation in only a few months with a lighter style. The other thing to consider is when you keg the beer did you rack the beer into the keg under a co2 blanket? And fill from the bottom up? These are now my standard techniques (I've learned from the past).

Yup I keg from the bottom up under a CO2 blanket trying to avoid any aeration in the tubing as well.

I am glad to know the beers will not be off after a couple months at room temp in a keg. I guess after all the keg is one big ass bottle...

Thanks!

I second Lars. Just double up on sanitary practice when your gonna store warm. The keg fridge will subdue any sanitization mistakes, but they'll definitely show themselves at room temp.

Speaking of storing kegs at cellaring temps you might find these helpful too to keep dirt and dust off of the posts. http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products ... rodID=6116
They have these for both liquid and gas posts
