Loss of Presssure Question

Thu Jan 18, 2007 9:26 pm

OK! I have this keg that is pissing me off. I sanitized it and then hit it with 20 psi of pressure to seal. Then I disconnect my CO2 tank, sprayed the top with soap and water solution (NO visible leaks) and let it sit for a few hours. I go to check on my pressure and the pressure in my keg has gone down. I can tell because now I can push the lid down. I've never had this happen before that I can remember but I usually fill and connect to CO2 immediately. Is this how it usually goes? I'm wondering if some of my pressure decreased because it got absorbed and if I leave the CO2 connected, I will be good. ANY OF YOUR INSIGHT WOULD BE WONDERFUL!

Is there any liquid in the keg? If so, then the CO2 was probably absorbed. If not, then it is leaking out somewhere.

Danny is probably right if you have liquid in the keg. If not, be sure to spray the tops of the posts too to check for leaky poppets.

I sprayed the thing on the posts and everywhere else. I thought that it might be absorbing but I don't trust myself. I don't ever remember it happening. I usually fill and carbonate. I just decided to fill and let sit. I noticed this and created hysteria in my own mind. Did I mention that I can't relax and have a homebrew? on doctor's orders. Next friday I'll be down for the count however! =D I might be coming in as drunk of the year!

on basic brewing radio, one of the guys who e-mailed in said he had discovered his crown sealed bottles were leaking by putting a balloon over the top, it inflated, so the seal was leaking.

Now I submit for your consideration, that condoms are mighty stretchy things that if treated gently, might be coaxed into going over the top of a cornie keg.

Either that, or turn it upside down and stick the top in a bucket of water.
