If I just start the siphon with co2 and use gravity, no problem. I was trying to push the beer like the pic BeerPal posted.

My connection leaked at the co2/carboy cap connection. It shouldn't leak if i couple the two with the filter.

What kind of tubing connections do you have before going into the liquid post?

Sorry, I missed your question earlier... My racking cane tubing is a larger diameter than my beer line tubing. That connection you see is just an adapter.

An excellent point for sure. Still, don't you worry about the introduction of oxygen?

I only worry about introducing oxygen in the vessel that I am transferring to. Ideally it would be purged with CO2, so any spashing would be in a CO2 environment. The air that is filling on top of the the beer being transfered never makes it over. Neither does the last 1/2" of beer (on top) that has been in contact with the air the whole time.

So, do you ferment with that racking cane in there?

Depending on how deep the second cane is into the liquid the extraneous bucket - you are just adding the need for additional pressure up front (in the glass). I have heard that it only takes a few PSIs to bust a carboy. If you can, incorporate some gravity in this. Then you will only need the CO2 to get it going.

The bucket is full of sanitizer. Maybe unnecessary, but certainly not hazardous. I have done many transfers using this closed-system technique, no gravity needed. Carboys are not pressure vessels to be sure, but you only need a pound or two of pressure to get things moving. Plus, the carboy hood will pop off the top if you run too much gas. I've never had a problem and it works every single time. No struggling with an "Autosiphon" type POS.

I suppose you could but I never did (I ferment in a conical now.)
