Its an all metal version of a Counter Top Brutus 20 (see tumble weed forum) Ok but the $$$!!

I emailed the company and with some reluctance they admitted that a stuck mash could cause the float valve to stop the flow to the mash tun.

In that event there is no flow past the temp probe, the probe cools the heating burner or element is switched on and there is the potential for the wort in the kettle to boil.

Wouldn't an autosparge arm prevent a problem with a stuck sparge?

Not necessarily. The AS just keeps a set volume of liquid in the MLT. A stuck sparge comes from having too fast of a flow rate. If you run off too fast, you'll get a stuck sparge before the AS has anything to say about it. It will keep you from overflowing the MLT if you're not standing there to stop the sparge water.

Basically there are two variables in the equation - speed & balance. Your outflow determines your speed & can cause the mash to stick, your balance keeps the inflow matched to the outflow. A mash will never stick because you're feeding it at the wrong speed. You'll just overflow or run it dry.

But the AS would prevent the BK from running dry, the coil from running dry, or boiling the wort in the BK (if you have temp control from a PID or some other device), right?
