Johnson City, TN

Mon Feb 04, 2013 11:20 am

In addition to always making me think of the OCMC song, I'll likely be going to a conference in JC, TN in June. Is anyone familiar with the area enough to recommend bars, bottle shops or breweries? It looks like TN gets some beers I can't get in OH, so would like to be able to find a place that I can reliably pick up some good beers I haven't had before.

I haven't been there but Beermapping.com shows a brewery in nearby Jonesborough. If you have the time or inclination to drive an hour I'd recommend going to Asheville NC for some good beer stops.
Have fun! :jnj

Depot street brewing in Jonesborough, just a few miles from Johnson cityis a good place, just 1/4 mile out from town, next to the tracks, try the Eurail ale it's good.
Jonesborough is a very small town, the oldest town in TN, and you can tell it from the buildings.
They have a Festival on the 29 of June with great beers and entertainment.

Mellow Mushroom in Johnson city has a great beer line up and good pizza.
hope that helps

Bottled beer I'm not much help, but Food City stores have beer under 6 percent, a fair selection, any thing higher you have to get at a Liquor store. :jnj

If you dig BBQ, I can say that you need to head up the road just a bit to Kingsport and visit Phil's Dream Pit.
No beer, but the grub rocks. You can get it to go.

Really, I'm not trying to be an :asshat: and send you to a :unicornrainbow: .

If ya go, try the pork wings. Fucking things are TO DIE FOR.

I'm sick of chasing my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later.

Oh, hell yeah! I get really  :x if I go to a BBQ place and it's vastly inferior to my own. We were in TX a few years back and the one BBQ place we went to was only meh... The veggies were good, but the meat was soggy.

Any other recommendations for this area? I'll be there in less than a month! Anyone live in the area that would be interested in meeting up for a pint?

I lived in JC for 5years.... beer scene is slightly bettter now. But overall still the same. Depot street brewery had some neat stuff last time i was up. Brewery only, I can't speak for the bottles. Wolf Hills brewing is suppose to be good.

I'd hit Ridgewood BBQ for some great bbq and Pal's for chipped ham sandwich, frenchie fries (yes that's correct) and peach tea
