Squatters does not just brew session beers...we have plenty of regular strength beer here...it just has to be in a bottle, not on draft

All of our brewerys have a great line up of full strength and 4% session beers...we have a brewery that only makes full strength beer (Epic Brewing) and doesn't even bother with the 4% stuff...we have a High West distillery that makes all kinds of bad-ass bourbons and stuff...we have an excellent winery in Moab...we have a good homebrewing scene and had around 600 entries in our local comp this last year

Yeah I have to laugh every time someone starts talking about the Utah beer laws when they obviously have no clue (bar talk, not referring to any bn folks). What I found kind of funny, though, is that half of Moab's beer is brewed in Montana... or it was a couple years ago when I worked at the brewery who made it, not sure if they're still doing that contract. We had a 60bbl fermenter pretty much designated to Dead Horse (best tank ever to pull yeast off from). We also took care of the Park City brand which is actually just another branch of Moab. There were a few different styles we did for them.

its 8 actually!...yes Epic makes really good beer and they distribute all over the US...you might be able to find some and it is very good

@Ozwald- I'm assuming Moab is still brewing up there because they just released theyre top 3 beers (dead horse being one of them) in 16 oz cans and I dont think theyre little brewery can keep up with that kind of demand
On Deck: porter, berliner weisse
Fermenting: xtra pale
In the keg/bottle: golden delicious apple cider, brown rice lager, german pils

I'm certainly not trying to offend anyone in or from Utah. If I did, I apologize. I just consider the 4% limit to be completely arbitrary and outdated. Why allow people to buy bottles of 4%+ ABV beer but not drink the same beers on draft?

It's a shame that Utah prevents people from having "bigger" beers on draft. From my experience, draft products are usually fresher and better tasting. Union Jack in bottles, for example, is usually not nearly as good as on draft. It goes downhill quickly in bottles. Matt Brindleson has said the same thing in interviews on the BN. Generally, the same thing applies for most IPAs and hoppy beers. It's just a shame Utah won't let these beers be sold in their best form. :jnj

And here I was trying to offend the Utah folk. I heard they smell funny too.

AFAIK the brewery up here still doesn't have a canning line - I know they finally figured out how to bottle 22's (we couldn't get the machine set that tall while I was there) - but none of their beers or other contracts are being canned. Maybe all the bottles are being done up here now so they can just do cans down there. Or maybe there's a truck hauling it off to be packaged somewhere else from here. Not sure. Dead Horse is a fine beer though. I couldn't believe the flavor coming out of a 3.2%. The scorpion one (APA I think? it's been a while) was beyond awful as were all the Park City ones we were doing.

CD, it's much like in many other states... laws on the books have a way of hanging around and hanging around. There have been recent changes in Utah as well as other states that are improving things, but each state is different in how they handle alcohol. I'm just glad I currently live in a state that is pretty free with things, other than not considering anything above 12% to be beer. But I can buy beer almost anywhere, don't have to buy it by the case, etc., etc.
