What the hell is the old fart saying after he says "heh heh, you lookin' fer beer stanger?"

He says something like "I reckon you better stick to (??)erot routie(??) and a desperate nomadic existence like the rest of us."

What the hell is "erot routie"??? I know I am not spelling it right, and I am looking to expand my vocabulary a bit.
