carbonation after primary?

Tue Mar 18, 2008 8:00 pm

racked to keg for lagering today. its my first lager(jamils dortmunder). pitched cold and primary for 16 days(no empty keg) at 50. ample tastes okay but is partially carbonated. no wild yeast flavor or acetic flavor. air lock functioned normally. goal of 1.013 and i got 1.018. my question is is it at all normal to have carbonation at this point? i guess that its because of the increased co2 in solution at colder temp but i wasnt expecting it. (does that ramble adequately or should i continue?)

yes, it is normal. Some CO2 is dissolved in the beer during fermentation.
It is still early. Let this beer lager and you will be well rewarded. The yeast work on their schedule, not yours.

If there's CO2 in the beer the gravity will read higher than it actually is. Did you de-gas the sample before reading? If not, you may be closer to 1.013 than you think.
