I've been saying the same thing for years - unless the fermenter can hold pressure, I will never crash it. As of right now the only fermenters that can hold pressure are some of the newer stainless conicals & pro-sized tanks.

I have a 10 foot hose I put on as a blowoff. Fill the hose with starsan and dump it in your blowoff bucket/2L bottle. Add more starsan to blowoff bottle. Wrap the 10 foot hose around fermenter. Duck tape hose and 2L bottle to fermenter.
Now I have more liquid in 2L than fills the hose so my 2L will not go dry. The10 feet of 1/2id hose will fill with starsan as pressure is created by cold crashing. If you need to open the carboy to let the starsan go down back to the 2L use co2 to flush out o2 from carboy.
That's how I age and or cold crash.
