how long to lagers take

Tue Mar 04, 2008 1:04 pm

I've only made ales so far maybe 15 batches or so, and they take an average of 6 hours to start fermentation and about six or seven days to finish. I'm gonna try jamils dortmunder export and I want to know how about how long should fermentation last at 50F.

Depends on the gravity of the beer and the yeast being used. On average my beers take about 3-4 weeks to fully clean up and then I move them to my lagering fridge for several months.

A long time in the cold.

I wouldn't let mine sit for anything less than 3 months. 2 months if you are in a hurry.

I would say to be prepared for it to spend 1 month in primary carboy- it could be as short as 3 weeks but as long as 6 but a month is a good average.

Then the temp needs to drop to 32 and it needs to "lager" or be in secondary for 2-3 months at least.

Sorry, no. I was talking about the lagering. I let my lagers go for 3-4 weeks in primary.
