Beer pairing with smoked trout

Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:57 am

Howdy all,

Just got a call from the wife who will be lunching on smoked trout with friends. Suggestions for beer pairings?

Thanks

I would think some thing that would stand up to the taste of the smoke would be good. Probably have to go super malty or super hoppy. Like a wee heavy or an IPA?
Cheers!

I think the Alaskan Smoked Porter will totally dominate the fish.

I'd go for something lighter - Aacht Schlenkerla Rauchbier - probably the Weizen, though the Marzen is very smooth too.

+1 to what Steve said. Anything with a light smoke will complement it nicely. I personally wouldn't go for anything extreme in any sense, be it very hoppy or smokey. I think a lighter scottish ale, schwarzbier, or something like Steve suggested would go perfect.

Belgian Golden Strong or nice clean crisp Pilsner..mmmm. What do you think would go good with Chips and Guacamole? I'm in charge of that Pairing for the 4th.
Enjoy Great Beer!
