Egg on Pizza

Thu Dec 11, 2008 11:31 am

I dimly recall a chat room discussion during last Sunday's Session about pizza with an egg on top. Steff mentioned it, and by an odd coincidence that's what my girlfriend was making for dinner that night. Damn was it good - and went very well the Smuttynose IPA I was drinking that night. Had to post a picture - she used an onion ring to contain the egg white.

I don't know if I could do that... what else is on that pizza?? I do have to give your GF credit - using the onion ring as an egg holder is genius.

In Australia, the type of Pizza we like to refer to as an "Aussie" has ham, bacon & egg on a tomato paste spread base - local variations leave out the bacon or include onion.

I always ask for extra egg on mine - yum

I had eggs cooked onto a pizza like that pic back in '84 in Paris. It was one of the best pizzas I ever had. Of course, we were totally shit faced at the time, so it could have been unicorn shit and we would have probably eaten it. :bnarmy:

I prefer the egg to be whisked and poured all over my Aussie pizzas.
But that looks like a damn tasty one too.

Never had it on a pie before, but I have had in on a burger and it was great! Initially I was skeered but months later (especially after dogging it a time or two) I began to crave it. A pleasant surprise. I'd totally like to try it on a pizza..

I do that for my 3-year-old sometime since he loves eggs. I just crack an egg onto a pizza half-way through cookin it... if you have the oven up at 500 degrees to cook on a pizza stone you don't even need to do anything to contain the egg since it's hot and cooks quickly.

When I lived in Europe growing up, we saw all kinds of weird (to us) pizzas: egg & hot dog, for example. I made that one for my 3-year-old too... that's like 2 of his favorite food groups right there.
