Group tastings - great idea!

Mon Oct 17, 2005 7:22 pm

Guys,
I just want to say I am really looking forward to next week's show where we group-taste Sam Adams. Ever since I started brewing my weak point has been my palate (I can't tell a Cascade from a Centennial and have probably drunk many infected batches thinking they were the bees' knees) and I was even considering taking a $100 BJCP prep-course later this year to have a professional show me "how" to taste beer. If you ever saw my paycheck you'd understand how big a deal $100 is to me.

I really hope this is going to become a weekly thing, tasting a different beer each week. Can't wait!

I like the idea too. I couldn't tune in for the tasting, but I'm wondering if there is going to be a suggestion area in this forum for future tasting?

I think it's a great idea also. It just might teach people like me to be able to taste beer with a critical tounge. Way to go guys!
Peace!

Beer Vote

Tue Oct 25, 2005 4:00 am

I love the idea. Being able to differentiate between the different flavors will help everyone be able to improve with their own beer. Too much crystal, not enough, how does this beer get its biscuity taste, etc. Its going to be a challenge for them to find beers that are commercially available everywhere. Maybe they should add a weekly beer vote section on the forum where they list 5 different beers and the group votes according to what they want to try, and what is available in their area. The most votes gets tried on the air. Just my 2cents.

Keep up the good work Justin,

I hate to be a ban wagon jumper oner, but what the hell. This is a worthy enough cause. I think the group tasting idea is fantastic. I will nominate the show for a civic award. I mean really, anyone can teach a kid to read. And to what end, a comic book here or there. But teaching the finer art of beer appreciation is a true life skill.

You guys are doing good things at The Brewing Network. Keep it up.

Thanks Beav. Happy you all like the idea. And I think Krotch has a great idea too, so we will try to implement that in the coming weeks.

For this week though, we've decided on Guinness. So get your Guinness (the one in the can with a widget ((nitro!)). Give one a taste ahead of time (or 2 or 3) and make some flavor notes. Then join us at the top of the 6 o'clock hour (second hour of the show), and be ready to taste.

See you Sunday,
Justin
