Help, I need a source for a yeast factoid!!!

I need to know what show and who was dropping the knowledge on the following yeast info: Dry yeast that is rehydrated on wort have a mortality rate of 50%.

Mills, I am not sure what show it was, but I am almost certain it wasn't the session. I remember Jamil talking about it. I would start with the Brew Strong episodes. Yeast Starters from 12-22-08 @1:24?

I just listened to a Jamil show yesterday where Jamil makes the statement in response to a call in. It was the mild, cal common, or belgian pale ale jamil show. If i get the chance, I will try to double check which one.

Found a reference. The discussion starts at about 37 minutes into the Jamil show mild episode and lasts a bit.

Jamil has said it many times.
Here's someone that tested it themselves.
Methylene Blue is the old school way of checking for viability but the results are still interesting.
Next:
Fermenting: Cider, Azacca Oat Pils, Egregious-ish, Lambic, Carrot Blossom Cedar Mead, Brett Helles
Drinking: RIS, Doppelbock, Sauerkraut Gose, Lambic, Brett Blonde, Kriek, Saison, Rye Berliner
Barrel aged: RIS, Rye Barleywine, Tripel

Methylene blue is inaccurate for viabilities under 90% though.

What does that even mean? There are plenty of pro brewers using dry yeast with great results...maybe because they're repitching. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Jamil is a smart guy, but he doesn't know everything.

Many of the dry yeasts give rehydration instructions for commercial brewers, but leave them off packs sized for homebrew. It is the rehydration that the OP was asking about.
