Another reason to hate Beer Advocate. Besides, you have to join to read the comments .. pussies.

So, the guy had an agenda from the get-go. He didn't like us in the first place, and that is why he posts this. And no, we didn't "Reduce" it to a spoof ... we were really just hoping it was because to say it was a serious effort is laughable.

I know the who the poster is, but he is not in the video.

I think you're seeing that reaction because they know that the BN is a force and quite frankly the on-air reaction was a surprise. It was to me. The BN has support at the other site, there are alot of people that feel that have to choose a side.

If they say they don't care about the BN, I think they're just saying that to minimize what he felt was a bit over the top in terms of criticism.

I'm not sure why anyone has ascribed any seriousness or importance to it. I don't recall anyone sending out a press release or anything. It was intended to be an almost line-for-line homage. We had no production budget. It was all dona as an online collaboration. Someone started a thread and it just come together. At various points I thought it would never get done.

You realize that you spent 20 minutes critiquing a 4 minute video? Who's serious now?

The great thing is, they posted a link to The Brewing Network! That is exactly how I found Lunch Meet, from another forum and I've never looked back. Once you go Meet you never go back!

Yeah but really, They are critisizing US for being "harsh" on that video, yet they rip our show apart using way worse language than we ever did on that video. So now they have a right to bash our show, and we don't have a right to bash a stupid video? What a bunch of whiners. Look, I'm sorry we hurt your feelings, but get over it. It was not well made, and anything that is not well made will take a beating in the public market. Even though it was well-intentioned and it took a lot of effort and all of that. A heart of gold does not sheild you from the world, you know.

It would take me a long time to re-create a Harry Potter trailer, but if I did it - word for word - does that automatically save me from taking a beating? No. Because not only did I steal someone elses idea for a video, but I did it in a low-production way.

You talk about all the hard work that those homebrewers put into that video and how dare we insult them ... what about the videographer's hard work on the original video? Or the director's hard work? Or the writer's, or editor's? You think they did all that work making a video just so some well-meaning homebrewers can steal it shot for shot? It's retarded to see people getting so worked up about this.

We are a beer show AND an entertainment show. You may not like it, and you have every right not to.

Oh - and to that guy over there that said we aren't homebrewers simply because we were not nice at all to a you tube video ... do you try to sound like a brow-beaten man or does it come naturally? If you see a Playboy, do you tell your wife that it exploits women? come on dude, TRY to have a little fun - PLEASE! And if you just can't muster the energy (or the brain power) to laugh at something, don't insult other people to compensate.

I truly hope this post was not full of offensive or harsh language. But in case it was, I hear Costo is having a sale on paper towel rollss. Just stick one between your legs to stop the bleeding.

Feel free to re-post this over there, because I am not even taking the time to join that shitty forum just for this thread.

eh...it's not as if we couldn't predict this was going to be the reaction. But I stand by my right as a human with an opinion not to like everything beer related. I like Beer Advocate and respect the forum's right to complain. I posted a response over there, which I never do, to make sure the facts are as straight as possible...even if JP isn't.

Here is my written response over there for those who don't want to be a member to read:

Hi Folks,

Justin here from the The Brewing Network. Never post here (or anywhere actually) but thought I'd chime in since there seems to be a lot of feelings going on. And more so just to show some respect for the BA forum.

I don't feel the need to respond to criticism of The Sunday Session per say. We are what we are and do what we do because it is what we love and it is also what works. Oh, and we're really great at it too :) (sense of humor folks...easy now) I appreciate all the comments and always take criticism into account when building our shows. Our product is public and anything that is given to the public will have varied reactions. It's my business to know that.

As for the video commentary, I said what i thought about it. Why do we all have to agree that everything published about beer or homebrewing is good? I think it's cool that the homebrewers wanted to make it and felt passionate about it, but why do I have to like it to be a "good homebrewer" or a "good beer lover". The answer is that I don't. I make my living discussing the craft beer and homebrew realm. It is my job to have opinions and broadcast them. It doesn't bother me when people don't like my opinions. They are mine and not the end all be all, no matter how loud our voice is. But when things are made public, they are open to public criticism, period. Doesn't mean I wouldn't love to talk beer with anyone involved in the video, or that I think they suck personally. I just did not appreciate the video. Weird I know.

Is it any different when Beer Advocate or one of the trade magazines posts a negative review of a craft beer they didn't like? Surely the brewer put his heart into the beer and could be offended by the review. But it is understood that these reviewers mean no malice toward the brewers in print. An honest opinion is expected from all of you, and by me as well. Maybe there is something about the audio version of criticism that is particularly offensive.

I'll finish with a couple corrections though so that at least the criticism about my commentary can be properly guided since it appears that many of the most offended posters did not actually hear my words. I did not really care about the production value of the video, although some of my co-hosts did. I get that it's a home made youtube video, so that is to be expected. Our videos suck too in that regard. We are an audio company. What I disliked was the commentary and the seriousness. I can see how some folks will like that. I found it pretentious and funny to watch. Criminal I know, but that's how I saw it.

Overall, I'm glad it was made. It's not easy filling three hours of terrible radio with zero beer information so material is always welcome. If any of the makers or participants are particularly hurt by my comments, please know it is never my intention to hurt anyone's feelings. I'll buy the beer if it helps.

Prost!
Justin
