Coffee roasting/info show?

Tue Jan 31, 2006 9:51 pm

Brewers,
I was wondering if maybe this could be a topic or a show that could cover coffee roasting/brewing/cupping? The one reason that I am writing this is I am new to roasting coffee and Casey from B3/C3 has so much knowledge about what is up with coffee. Just an idea.

Cheers,

I think that this is a good idea. Sorta of variance of "brewing". Casey from B3 is passiionate about roasting coffee. So much so, that I understand that he went to several coffee bean producing areas to expand his knowledge.

Jonny 5 oh, can you look into this?

Easy Oz,
Grab a coffee cup and fill it 2/3 full of water.
Set it in the microwave on High for about 1 min
*listen for the beep*
Then, take a teaspoon of Nescafe and mix it well with your water
Cream and Sugar to taste.

My next episode i'll take it to the next level. I'll show you how to make coffee using pre-ground up folgers and a Mr.Coffee coffeemaker!

Episode 3 I'll discuss "Specialty Creams" like hazelnut and french vanilla!

:)

All kidding aside though. I actually wouldn't mind hearing a show on coffee, but I don't want to hear it on a sunday. Sunday's to me now are all about getting drunk as hell and talking about beer. Maybe do the coffee show as a weekday filler every now and then.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I've been toying with the idea of roasting my own for a while now...

BTW: Cupping? Is that some sort of preverted form of spooning?

Nescafe is not even coffee in my book.

Cupping from what I have read is what the coffee dudes like Casey do to evaluate the beans. It involves taking some ground beans and mixing it in a cup then you let it settle a bit and taste without straining. This may not be the exact details but its roughly it.

Coincidentally (or not??) I spoke to Casey about this Monday night at B3. We are going to start with a coffee roasting spotlight on one of our shows and see where it takes us from there.

Our Wednesday daypart that is empty and being reserved for wine content we are developing, could have some room for a show like this.

J,

Here is an idea for you. Do some roasting info, but relate the spot to beer by talking about how to add that nice freshly roasted coffe to the beer. I have never roasted my own as we have a very good roaster down the street, but I do make a coffee porter once a year or so as I really enjoy the combo of beer and coffee.
