Cider show would be great. I have only done one batch so far with some cheap cider stuff and it came out OK. Waiting for this falls harvest. I plan on doing a 50 gallon batch

I was digging through my notes and I think another good topic is what types of yeast could be used. For example, wine (including champagne), cider, and brewers yeast. How to prepare a starter for the 50 Gallons  of cider that Lufah is planning to make.

Justin, as always I like to compare my palate to the Beer Judges' so how bout having Dr. Scott, Jon, Chris G and yourself review a couple of commercial products against BJCP guidelines. Strongbow, Woodpecker and EJ Gallo's cider are usually widely available. Your thoughts?

I was planning on trying to just let it start with the wild yeasties. Should be an interesting experiment. I have a big barrel might as well use it for something.

You see? That would be a great issue with fermenting cider. What about wild yeast? Perfect. We're gonna make this a good cider segment even we have to go drag Jon's lazy a$$ out of bed for the show.

Just punking on you, Jon

Can anybody recommend a good guide for cider brewing ?

Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:52 am

I could just google it, but is there one that would be recommended for a good batch ? If I'm only going to do one, maybe two, 5 gallon cider batches a year, I'd like it to be a good one.

thx
