Additionally, does anyone have any opinions on the World Bistro?

Yes, in fact I have cut Stone out of my normal consumption. Plus I think their beers changed for the worse when they moved into their new brewery. Ruination used to be one of my #1 beers, now it is much further down the line. To me, it became more about the bittering hops than finish and aroma and more like smashing you over the head with the bittering hops rather than making it about the flavor of the bittering hops. Bitterness simply for the sake of bitterness is dumb. I understand what an IIPA is about, and I do like a good IIPA, I just think there are better ones out there.

Oh, and I don't usually go about slamming Stone. When people say it is great, I let them hold onto their love for the beers, as I think they are speading the gospel of craft beer. So, if you like or love Stone brews, please go on doing so. Don't let my opinion change yours.

As for the world bistro, I have had decent experiences there. The food has been good, and the service the same. Albeit a bit over priced.

Don't even get me started on their World Bistro fucking restaurant or the fact they've now hired Dr. Bill...

In all seriousness, lay it on me... I'd like to hear your local opinion on the World Bistro, etc....

And since your down south and I don't get down there too often what are you other favs?
I like some of the Lost Abby brews... I'm an IPA fiend so that's where my palate lies.... Ruination IPA types beers.

I've never been to the bistro to eat. We did stop there once on a beer bus tour between Lost abbey and Pizza Port Carlsbad. I had an alesmith IPA. I won't refuse to drink their beers, but will refuse to eat their food.

As for other places down here, I'm sure you know Green Flash. Their West Coast IPA, Imperial IPA and their Hop Head Red are all awesome. Coronado Brewing also makes a couple of great IPA's, The Idiot and the Islander. Alesmith IPA is great, any of the Pizza Port hoppe beers are good. I personally like Yiga's Revenge the best and San Clemente's Doheny as well. The Wipeout and the Hop 15 are good too. The brewer, Dean, at the San Diego Brewing Company won gold at both the GABF and the World Beer Cup in 2008 for his Hopnotic Double IPA.

My absolute most favorite brewery in San Diego though is the Alpine Beer Company. Their Pure Hoppiness Double IPA is to die for. Their Exponential Hoppiness tripel IPA is a liquid panty dropper. They also make a rye IPA with NZ hops called the Nelson, two great regular IPA's called O'Brien's IPA and Duet and a specialty double IPA called Bad Boy.

Oggi's Pizza makes their Hop Juice double IPA that used to be great when it first came out, but it's not been my favorite the last few times they've had it. I've also seen a Karl Strauss Double IPA around town a few times that is very respectable too.

There you go MM now you are talking some Amazing Beers! Pure Hoppiness is my Favorite! :jnj

I am not a big fan of Stone either, though they do put on a good anniversary festival and for a good cuase though.

How about flipping the script - would you buy beer from a brewer who was a great guy but made just ok beer?
Enjoy Great Beer!

double fisting, nice!

as for the nice guy who just makes "meh" beer.

I'd give it a shot and try it again occasionally, but I'm not going to buy shit beer just to support a great guy.

What's that beer in town? Firehouse? where their proceeds go to firemen or something?

Great cause that I'd love to support, but oh dear god I can't drink their beer.
