vista blows goats

my next computer is a Mac because all new PCs come with vista.

Windows 7 is coming out this year and I have High hopes for it

I think MS knows that if they put out another piece of junk that people will be flocking away from them

I was really hoping for good things with Win 7 too, but it looks like its just several updates to Vista, and more of the same thing that we've been getting from Microsoft for ever: Windows trying to look and feel like Mac, but falling very short in the process.

Vista does indeed blow goats, and I just love how Dell offers XP as an optional "downgrade" available for additional cost!

I'd love to hear feedback though from anyone who's got pre-release intel other that avilable on the MS propoganda website, I guess there's always hope...

Well, I don't know what propaganda you're referring to, but I've got the W7 beta and from what I can see as a gamer and hardware power user perspective it's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot closer to XP than Vista. MS is a slow moving and tin-eared behemoth, but even they apparently realized they'd fucked up with Vista. It certainly feels a faster and less intrusive than Vista and my 3dMarks tests show a slight improvement.

I've worked with Win7 for 6 months or so now (since the first public beta). It's not the same as Vista, it may look the same, but the ability to actually function as a OS is a ton better.

Vista was a the new version of WinME.

Oh, and I hate abacast and winamp (the only reason I have it installed is this show), but Justin couldn't possibly afford the bandwidth you bastards suck down on a Sunday. Maybe abacast allows him to broadcast pretty cheap.

personally, I'd like to use VLC, which I use for EVERYTHING else.

From the Linux side of the fence, it seems like I can use pretty much anything to make it work. At first it wanted me to use the direct link (for the Mac users I guess?), but then I used "user agent switch" in FF3 and I was able to play through both VLC and Amarok. Now, if only I could wake up at 3am and tune in!

yeah it's a shame they can't just use established protocols like Shoutcast, etc. But I guess when you need to outsource your streaming, you're at the mercy of whatever that company uses to push their packets. And with Shoutcast being cross-platform compatible, and of course, freeware, it doesn't matter cuz those are two terms that give Marketing and the Executive team the heebie-jeebies.

Although, the idea of peer-assisted streaming is a good one...too bad there are no open-source versions of that. Or are there...? Oops maybe not for 17 years... "The Abacast Live Peer-Assisted technology (Patent #6,970,937 B1)"
