BLACK IPA (CASCADIA DARK ALE)

Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:49 pm

I am from the PNW and HATE both terms; all of the BIPA's and CDA's I a have had or made were more like a black APA's. Now the Brewers Association has recognized the Black IPA as a style? Fuck it, lets ditch the IPA and the regional bullshit; we are Americans, it is an American Black Ale.
Word.

Actually "we" are not all Americans. I also hate the regional bullshit. FWIW.

+1. If they give you Cascadian Dark Ale as a style, I want Texas Brown back.

Let's just call it "lunchmeat"? :unicornrainbow: or "that other Ale"

That way we can put a BN spin on the beer/name.

Let's call it "Al Gore Ale" or AGA, since he invented it.

Funny, it's the BJCP that oversees homebrew style guides and while Gordon Strong mentioned it was possible there have been no additions to the guide yet. Remember Patfarm BA has a much wider guideline base than homebrew and while AHA is tied to their hip they don't run the BJCP.

IMHO a dark hoppy beer category is fine borwn/black whatever just don't use pale in the name or abbreviated form and I won't complain.

if a location is mentioned, it should be a very broad one like "american", but I think it should not be tied to any geographical location.
