tick control

Tue Apr 29, 2008 5:43 pm

Ive been finding a fair amount of ticks in our house lately, a couple have been crawling on my arm while on the couch. In the past week it has been 3 hard ticks and 2 soft ticks.

This is the first time ive lived near a wooded area (about 50 ft from the back door) I keep my grass up to the tree line pretty nice and trim, so theres not alot of high grass/weeds. My dog can only go about 1/2 way to the tree line and he is on frontline.

That said, does anyone have any tick control advice, are 5 ticks in the past week usual living this close to a wooded area? Do I just need to RDWHAHB?

If you don't like ticks, get a digital clock!

There are several things you can spray or spread on your lawn that will help get rid of them (although some of the really good ones have been taken off the market, damn tree huggers). Lowe's or HD should have what you need. Just remember, start at the foundation of your house and work out toward the edges of your yard. If you don't it can drive them to the safe haven of your living room. Good luck.

thanks, I stopped at Lowes and picked up some spray, though I didnt see the part about spray from the house out. I sprayed inward so I wouldnt be walking all over it (which is what the directions said). I also really only sprayed where the dog can go as I think its probably him bringing them in.

We'll see how it goes...

Motor: I took out the batteries of my analog clocks as a precaution.

i'd guess its the dog. double check the stuff you've got for him, some of them just kill the fleas/ticks once they try to bite the dog. some actually repel fleas/ticks away from the dog. that's the one you want...b/c yes, 5 in a week on your couch is weird.
