While that high of a bal is considered incompatable with life, it is possible for a chronic alchoholic to reach such a level and survive. I've seen those people and it's amazing. Their baseline is about .15-.2. If they go below that they strat to go into dt's. They are functional at those levels.

So, the moral to the story is, the more you drink regularly, the less chance you have of dying of alchohol poisoning.

it's amazing how the body can adapt. We got a guy in the ER who was the shade of a tennis ball asking if he could have a drink. He registered a .4 something and was sitting up talking like nothing was wrong. I worked at a VA hospital for a while and i had call over xmas. xmas eve i had a drunk register a .39 and he was coherent at the time; xmas day, a different drunk registered a . 44 and he was out cold and didn't even flinch when i stuck a needle in him; the day after xmas, a guy registered a .5, was awake but sloppy drunk. they would just give these guys an IV or two, a shot of B12, a place to sleep and a hot meal. they would go home the next day but they would be back eventually.
it just boggles the mind...
