Need some programming help...

So if I want to take and image like this...

Image

and make it so that there was a palate somewhere and you could change say all the black to another color or the white to green or whatever. I would want it to work inside a web page and then be printable.

The question is what program do I need to learn so I could make that happen?

Thanks

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

You could probably do it with a bit of PHP. Have the image display with the default colours (I'm assuming here that you are generating the image through HTML rather than as am embedded gif or jpg). Have the colour selctors on the page somewhere where they can tweak the colours. When they hit the OK button it sends a page request with either a POST or GET containing a parameter for each of the colours. The php script behind the page uses the parameters to generate and colour the page.

You could also do it in DHTML and show the colour changes live but I suspect the page redeaws would take too long and make it look clunky.

If you are trying to do this to an embedded gif, then thats a whole other ballgame. You would need flash or something like that and there I can not help you.

Cheers

If you're authoring these patterns yourself and you can represent them as cells in a table, then the route Dave suggests is what I'd do.
