A day in San Francisco

Sat Jan 13, 2007 5:02 pm

My wife and I will be taking a quick day trip on Jan 27th. We'll be in town for about 10 hours. Other than visitng ShawnO at 21A, what are some good things to take in?

10 Hours in San Francisco.....

Lunch at Magnolia, drinks at Toronado, Dinner at 21A. Enjoy and savor and don't try to crush too much in. City Beer would fit in between Toronaddo and 21A.

Are you driving or will you be on transit? Coming in from the airport, or passing through town on a drive?

Enjoy!

Thanks for the ideas guys. While I wouldn't mind basing the whole day around beer, the wife might want to see some other stuff for some reason. We'll be arriving at 8AM and leaving about 7PM from SFO - no checked luggage, and we'll already have our boarding passes. After reviewing the public transit, we're thinking about just renting a car for the day to make full use of the time.

avoid SF Brewing on columbus. I had the sampler. thats about all I could take. Food looked good but we were already full from 21A.
Having a beer guide would benifit your trip. I dont know any but Im sure someone that lives closer than I do could.. Otherwise that would give me a reason to drag the wife on a quest for beer.

I went to SF once when I was 13. I was from a small town and SF was very "odd" to me. Here's what I would take in:

1) Be sure to look for the bums at the trolley stops. They will sing songs (poorly) and then pass the hat around.

2) Look for cross-dressers. You get a point for everyone you spot.

3) Go down to the wharf, but watch out for mimes. They are obnoxious.

I would recommend Speakeasy, but since it's a production brewery the bar is only open Friday afternoon so you'll miss it, but keep an eye out for their beers.

If your wife wants to hit the Piers for tourism go along and head towards Giardelli Square, along the pier side there is a great beer bar with 88 taps a good place for a refresher. :)

yeah thats the Jack bar . I think.. if you stroll down the Warf area look out for the guy with the bush that springs out to scare people. If you come across a guy doing magic tricks and he does the old Straight jacket bit. Ask to check the clasp and add a double knot to the end. The leather is real soft so a good knot is in order. Then walk away and dont plan on going back. I dont
