There should be some support for the plight of Vegemiteless Aussies on the BN forum. Vegemite is after all made entirely from spent brewers yeast.

I sympathise heavily with my ex-pat co-nationals. It might taste like road tar, but when you are brought up on the stuff, you are addicted to it like it was made from pure crack cocaine.

Ok... So In the US you can only add folate to bread and cereal. Fine... Vegemite is spread on bread therefore any folate therin is being added to bread. Problem solved.

Thing is,

Near as I can tell, Vegemite doesn't have added folate, it just happens to already have folate in it, because Vegemite has absolutely craploads of B group vitamins from the yeast, of which folate is one.

So as airgead points out, the only adding of folate happens when you add vegemite to your toast/sandwich. Which is apparently fine.
