aaand swing tops

Tue Nov 13, 2012 3:54 pm

was helping my folks clean out the basement the other weekend- in a dark dusty corner i happened to stumble across 2 cases of 47.3cL grolsch swing tops and 3 more cases of assorted 1L swing tops. i felt like i won the lottery. a few decades old perhaps, but some extended pbw soaking and swapping out the rubber gaskets and g2g. have already bottled captain lawrence smoked porter recipe from CYBI and an esb. brewing a granola stout and possibly a cider this weekend and all those bad boys will soon be filled. just wanted to share the joy!

just watch out for John Wayne Gacey's crib...

i um hrmm digress.. nice score. let us know how the seals hold up. i have not gotten around to using mine aside from filling from a pouring keg and drinking within a few days. people always say with new rubbers they still don't seal ovefr the long term that well... so i'm still curious to try a head to head with a crown cap for a year.

I have a case of 1L swing tops. I had a bottle aging for a few months (6-8ish?, it's been a couple years back now) but the new gasket held up just fine. Perhaps it makes a difference that it's still dripping StarSan when I swing it closed making for a better long-term seal? Dunno, but they've always worked well for me.
