Vacation Asheville, NC & Johnson City, TN

Mon Sep 25, 2006 10:48 am

Going camping at Roan Mountain for a couple of weeks. Will be around Boone, NC Asheville, NC and Johnson City, TN. Any must do beer stuff? The plan is mostly to hang out at camp, but we will probably get to each of those citys at least once. We'll be there starting Oct 2nd for a couple weeks.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

Lufah,
I havent been there myself, but have some friends that moved to Asheville a while back. They sent me some pint glasses and said they liked this place. http://www.ashevillepizza.com they are picky about where they eat but they drink Coors Light so I cant vouch for the brew.

I second highland. Decent brews.

If you go to the biltmore, highland does a contract brew of a pale ale for them. Tastes exactly like my own.

That's about all the local beer I saw when I was up there a couple years ago. Others in in the state are Cottonwood and their brown ale is pretty good and IPA is decent. Carolina Blonde is.. well, a blonde. Red Oak pretty much sucks.

Dunno if you'll be anywhere near Heinzelmännchen or not, but I've heard good things about their beers.

There is no good beer in any areas mentioned. Know that. Moonshne, yes, plenty of it. Beer? No way.
