BN'er Goes Pro - Win Our Label Competition!

Tue Jun 21, 2011 1:59 pm

Hey all, I am taking the plunge this fall into professional brewing! The place will be called Cranker's Brewpub in Big Rapids, MI. We are having a label competition to determine the look of our first packaged beer. Details below:

Cranker's Brewpub Label Competition

Here is your opportunity to combine your creativity with your love for locally brewed craft beer!

Cranker's Brewpub is holding a contest to label their inaugural brew: Cranker's Bulldog Red. If your label design is chosen to be the concept that will adorn Cranker's handcrafted beer you will receive:

- One $50 gift certificate per month, for a year to Cranker's Brewpub.
- One case of Cranker's Bulldog Red per month, for a year.
- A mural of your design will be displayed inside Cranker's Brewpub.

Label Requirements:

- You must provide two label concept sizes, one for a 12oz bottle (3.5”x3.5”), and one for a 16oz can (6”x8”) .

- The design for the 16oz can will have three 2.5” columns (the remainder will be filled with federal messages). The center column will feature the Cranker label that you design. The two panels flanking your design will be dedicated to descibing the beer and explaining the advantages of aluminum cans as a package. The two text columns just mentioned will be handled by Cranker's and is not the responsibility of the entrant.

- Entries must feature the phrases: “Cranker's Brewpub” and “Bulldog Red”.

- There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit.

- Entries are due on July 20, 2011.

- Send entries to: crankersbrew@gmail.com

***In order to be eligible for the prizes of the gift certificates and the Bulldog Red you must be 21.***

Thanks for helping a brotha out!

I was away last night. Did J happen to mention the label competition on The Session? How was the Troegs show?

It is a 5% amber ale featuring a blend of three british caramel malts (spanning the spectum from light caramel flavors to rich unrefined sugar and dark fruit) that forms the malt back bone that supports late hop additions of chinook. WLP 007 Dry English Ale yeast adds levels of complexiy to this crisp, dry, and well balanced beer.

I know that there is a Red Dog on the market, but my boss is making the call on the name. Visual options to avoid potential label overlap are: a profile of a bulldogs face or body, paw prints, dog collar/tag, etc. Feel free to utilize hops and barley if that is where your mind takes you. I guess there is not even a need for a picture dependant on the way you manipulate text.

Please feel free to submit multiple concepts, even if the only difference is color scheme or fonts.

Thanks to J for the primo read that he gave this project, I cant tell you how much i appreciate it. And thanks to all who are working on labels or spreading the word to those who would be interested.

So you don't really want any actual bulldogs on the label?

Do they have Red Dog in your neck of the woods? If you dont, it features a bulldogs face from straight ahead. For that reason I was suggesting if an actual bulldog is incorporated, perhaps a profile of the head or entire body. Does that help?
