Hello,
With all of the horrible events going on around the world, I feel like I need to do something to help. Whether we are talking about hurricane survivors in the USA, or in war and famine ridden countries around the world, there are people struggling to survive. What strikes me the most is the amount of children in these dire situations. I recently saw a Pulitzer Prize winning picture by Kevin Carter, and it moved me to tears. It depicts a starving little girl (toddler age) crawling to a United Nations food camp. I have not been able to get this picture out of my mind - that little girl has got to be about the same age as my daughter, and it really hits home. I can't help but feel for all of the children around the world that are facing horrible situations. Many have lost their parents, they are alone, scared, and need food, shelter and someone to care about them. I was trying to figure out what I could do to help these children. W ith a toddler at home and a baby on the way, time and money are short (as I imagine they are for a lot of people). I did some research and found out that through Unicef (Unicef is dedicated to helping children around the world), people can hold online fundraisers. So, that is what I decided to do. If we all come together and donate just a little bit of money, we can help some of these children. You can help provide lifesaving food, water, sanitation, health care and protection to young people in future crises or ongoing emergencies worldwide. A little bit of money goes a long way. For instance, just $5 can provide an emergency health kit for one person for three months, with medical supplies and drugs to cover basic health needs. $87 can provide a basic family water kit for ten households, with detergent, soap, wash basin, towels, bucket and water purification tablets. And $188 can provide one "School-in-a-Box" kit containing basic education supplies for 80 childre n during times of crisis.
Even if you are not in a position to donate right now, at least this brings some awareness to the situation, which is very important, too.
Please click the link below, to donate, and please feel free to pass this on to anyone that you think may want to help.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
Sincerely,
Wendy Cihak
