I second that the Rangers are NOT relying on Jagr. He still makes an occasional play that makes you say wow, but why do you think they spent all the money on Drury and Gomez. They are the next level of leadership on the team, and they're already making huge impacts.

That being said, I'm still scratching my head with them. They have the talent and grit to go DEEP in the playoffs, but they've also shown they can play like they don't care, and that's troublesome.

I also think the Cup has a better shot at ending up in Pittsburgh than Montreal, although both teams are impressive (trying to placate both sides).

Who was talking about the Sharks? Nobody of any importance...

ZZ- Now we have to hope that Florida can bring it strong against Carolina... good luck with that one. But you can still get in if Philly melts down!

And of course: Cheers to hockey!!! :jnj

I actually got out on the ice and played in a local pick-up game last night. First time on my skates in over 2 years. Damn do I hurt today!

I'm very happy that hockey has finally gotten to a point where pretty much any team that makes the playoffs, have a real good chance of making it all the way. Dynasties are finished in hockey and that's a GOOD thing.

On the other hand, we have too many teams. Seriously, Nashville? Phoenix?
An alarming number of 3rd rate players in the league and that's just because we have to fill up the teams.

We keep hearing about this Super League happening in Russia and parts of Europe. That could spell trouble. Maybe the Russians would rather play at home for twice the money and close to their families? But this is getting ahead of myself but it's still a topic being discussed more and more around here.

I just think nothing can replace having your name on the same trophy as Maurice Richard, Gordie Howe, Gretzky and Lemieux.

But that's just me.

The best of the best will still come to the NHL. I wouldn't worry about that. Plus a few decent hockey players come from Canada every so often ;)

The european players didn't grow up with the mistique of the Cup, so it can't mean as much to them. They come here because the NHL is the best, and they want to compete for the championship in the best league.

If this super league actually takes off, I bet a lot of European players will leave the NHL. And that will be bad for the NHL.

I also wholeheartedly agree on too many teams. Like San Jose for instance. What do they know about hockey??? <-directed specifically at JP

Seroiusly, though, I have a lot more respect for original 6 teams, becasue of the history they have. Even Detroit (which I can't stand). There definitely should be more than 6 teams in the league, but 30 is about 6 too many, in my opinion.

Tampa and Florida should merge ... meet half way. in Orlando or something. Nashville and Atlanta can do the same. Pheonix and Columbus can pack it up or become an AHL team. And the 3 CA teams can merge and make one big California team ... the California Mighty Dusharkings. ;) :)

Is that pronounced: Douche-are-kings? If that's the case... I'm all up for the merger.

Yep, that works. I didn't even look at it like that, but that's perfect ;) :)

Let the water dwellers merge... just keep the Kings out of it. I know they have sucked pretty hard for the last few years. But, I'm still a fan.
