Glad to hear everything is okay. With 4 kids, I'm surprised this was your first visit. I have 2 boys...ages 7 & 10. The youngest was in the ER @ 10 months with a broken leg. He thought he could keep up with his older 3 year old brother, tried climbing up on the couch and fell on his leg. Thankfully there was no permenant damage and to this day you would never know. He's pretty fast on his feet and can darn near beat his older brother in a race.

Ditto on the sentiments: I'm glad everything worked out ok. We don't have any kids yet, but I already dread the day one will get hurt badly. My wife will pass out if you just say the word blood in front of her too.

I'm glad to hear you were able to get everything taken care of!

So speaking of kid emergencies this happened today.

Imagine me in the cube farm talking her through this, and the looks on all the faces of the co-workers.... Not funny at the time, but now hilarious.

Email from Wendy today:
Well, if I hadn't already earned my "Mommy card", I believe I have now.

We had some unpleasant excitement a couple of hours ago......My poor baby boy... This gets a bit gross - you have been warned.

I give the kids lunch and get them ready for naps, as usual. I put Christopher down, and am reading to Chloe. All of the sudden, Christopher is screaming and crying. And, not the, "hey I am pissed that it is nap time" kind of scream. But, the "something is really wrong" kind of scream.
Chloe and I go into his room to see what is wrong. He is curled up, clutching his blankie, looking horrified. I pick him up, and smell poop. Okay, so I check under his shorts and see nothing, but still smell it. Put him on his changing table and take his shorts and diaper completely off (while he continues to cry).
OMFG!!! There is poop - he is constipated to the point that his poor little baby butt is stretched to about the size of a ping pong ball and the poop is stuck. He is in a lot of pain. I pick him up, grab the phone, and call Brian (I know he has helped Don in the office with constipated animals) . He suggests an enema - I explain that there is no way to get anything in there as it is seriously plugged (all the while Christopher is still crying and Chloe is now crying because she is scared). He suggests rubbing some A&D on the area to help things move. I do this, but it hurts Christopher more, and seems to do no good. So, I "pull on my Mommy panties" and deal with it. I cover my fingers in A&D and start digging it apart. Get some out, which seems to help him. Keep digging a little more. Get more out, then he passes the rest of it (which was about another two inch ping pong size). Then it was finally over. I got him cleaned up, put some more A&D on his sore butt, fresh diaper and shorts. Scrubbed my hands and gave him a laxative and put the kids back down for their naps.
My poor baby - that had to hurt like hell. Now Chloe is asleep and Christopher is in his crib singing away (and probably really glad his little butt doesn't hurt any more). I am relieved that is over. Not that you all don't already know this, but it is excruciating to see your child in pain. Poor baby butt....

isnt there a song that goes somthing about monkeys jumping on the bed?? Just sayin..
When my youngest was 2 he swalowed a penny. Ex ray showed it in the middle of his throat. several hours later they were able to get him relaxed enough to use hemostats to pull it out.
So far we have been lucky with the youngest. Its comming soon though.

Sorry to hear about that Mrs. H. I hope that is the last time you have to go through that, but sadly it probably isn't.

Mrs. Code and I have lots of stories like that.... One time one of the kids bear-hugged the other and picked him up, then fell forward. The younger kid hit his head on the front porch and busted it open. Ugh.

They've also had several items stuck up their noses, from vegetables to the head off of a lego man, go figure. Another time one of them fell off of a tie wall and broke an arm while waiting for the school bus. Ouch.

Crazy kids.

I heard a story once about one little guy that fell off a retaining wall and broke his foot. And I'm assured that there was no stripper pole involved...

I'm not sure if that story counts here though, but as he was just a little guy, its similar...
