Yea! MacWorld! New iPod?

Assuming you're staying in SF and without a car, here's a list of places that are not to miss and easy to get to on the MUNI (SF transit) or BART.

I'm assuming you can take the time to find a map to look them up. The MUNI map is at: http://transit.511.org/providers/maps/S ... 510805.pdf

21st Amendment is a few blocks from Moscone- 2nd Street near Brannan

Thirsty Bear is 1/2 block from Moscone - Howard east of 3rd

Magnolia - Masonic and Haight

and her upscale sister Alembic - Haight a few doors west of Cole

are out in the Upper Haight (closer to Golden Gate Park). Take the N streetcar in the Market Street subway or 6, 7, or 71 buses to the Haight

Toronado is in the Lower Haight. Same transit, just get off sooner - Haight and Fillmore

Triple Rock is in Berkeley, four blocks north of the Downtown Berkeley BART station on Shattuck Ave just before Hearst

Barclay's is in Oakland, three blocks north of the Rockridge BART station

There are other places, some OK, some not, but these would be my choices for a few days in my lovely city.

21st Amendment and Toronado are musts. 21A because it's the lair of the infamous Shaungina. Toronado because it is the best beer bar in the world. And if you're at Toronado, Magnolia is a must, as well. Triple Rock is "America's Oldest Original Brewpub", the oldest place still open under the original ownership, and where many of the stars of the brewing industry got their start. Great hamburgers, too!

Ive said it before, and I'll do it again, stay away from teh toronado - worst service and piss-poor attitude. Dont go there unless you like being treated like shit. Go to Lucky 13, its like 5 min away, pretty much same draft selection, but freindlier and more space to hang out.

Don't be scared of the Toronado, be respectful. Go to the bar and stand there like you don't want a beer and you'll be served quickly. It's very zen.

You have it backwards, motor - they should be repsectful of you. if you stand there looking at the bartender, and they see you but keep walking by, even when there are only 3 other people in the place, that is disrespectful. Dave is a nice guy and all, but I have been burned too many times there to give him any more of my money. :)

I never had problems with the service at Toronado, and found it to be more fun than Lucky 13.

Maybe it's that you are a big stupid head JP ?

JP, What is your big issue with the Toronado? So the place is not like ordering a beer at TGIFridays. They have a little attitude. They work hard and play hard. I love the T for all of that. Sometimes you wait a little for a beer and that's not a bad thing. I personally think you may be hiding something that happened there that was unrelated to ordering a beer. "Why does it hurt in my private place?"

Next time you're at the T, take in the atmosphere. The place is like no other and if I didn't get some occasional guff there, i would think there was something wrong.

Hey I realize this stand may not make me popular, but it is my opinion, and just like you guys like the place and want to get people to go there, I dislike it. I know a lot of other people that have had the same probelms I have, so it is not me. I would be the first to admit if it were, trust me. :) I just feel that if I am going to spend money in a place, I should be treated nice. I don't feel I should wait 5 min for a drink when there are only 3 other people in the place and the bartender sees me and keeps talking to his friends. Once or twice, yeah, ok, shit happens. Belive me, I have given shitty service on a few occasions, and know what it means to be a bartender, and how demanding that job is. So I am lenient and a big tipper for that reason. But in any place I have been, the T has consistantly given me the worst service. That is why I steer people away. I have been going back and going back, thinking it will not be that bad. And every time I have to wait for no reason. Flufah to that!

So, not being from around there or ever been there, is the guff they give part of the schtick of the place? Kind of like Dick's Last Resorts that were around for awhile, may still be?

If it isn't the schtick, bad service shouldn't be excused personally. I have never been there so I can't comment specifically.
